Liberty Mutual is a large insurance company. However, despite being in the top four companies in terms of size, it is often not included in lists of the top companies. It specializes in diverse communication options and a variety of insurance plans. We have created a comparison to compile Liberty Mutual Insurance reviews and understand where their services are in terms of premiums, coverage, options, and customer service.
What Is Liberty Mutual?
Liberty Mutual is the fourth largest insurance company in the U.S. It offers similar needed services and prides itself in being diversified in quality and service. Liberty Mutual provides services in auto, home, life, and motorcycle insurance, with various subcategories in renting, condos, and specialized vehicles. Our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews state that they offer a variety of options for communication including mobile apps and online services.
Liberty Mutual Insurance Reviews
Liberty Mutual offers coverage in many areas, including auto, motorcycle, home, and life. They have created many subcategories as well to specialize in specific niches in each area, such as vintage cars, boats, condos, pets, renting properties, and more. They also provide business insurance. Liberty Mutual also provides accident forgiveness for drivers with a clean record, which we found to be a strong motivator for choosing them for coverage, as well as their lifetime repair guarantee and new car replacement policy.
Pricing for various plans and packages will vary from plan to plan, however overall we saw pricing to be higher than other companies. While we were paying for the added bonuses and service Liberty Mutual provides, we still felt that the rates had a higher likelihood of being more than we wanted.
How It Compares
We picked a few similar products available on the market to see how they compare. We are basing the criteria in areas we felt were the most obvious as well as strongest motivators when looking for an insurance plan and use Liberty Mutual insurance reviews as well as its competitors' reviews to base each rating off of.
Prices varied based on our age, history, and the city we live in, so the numbers will change with those variances. If anything, this area seems to be the most critiqued. We found customers criticizing the unprecedented or sudden increase in premiums and also found that their prices vary greatly depending on which city we lived in.
According to our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews, their coverage plans were well received. Basic packages included injury liability, property damage, and medical payments - which is standard - but they also included a lifetime repair guarantee and a 12-month fixed rate. We felt that 5 out of 5 stars is fair for the extra coverage even basic plans offered.
Liberty Mutual provides many options, which we felt made them the easy choice for all insurance needs, from basic needs like cars and housing to more specialized needs like flood, landlord, small business, tuition, umbrella insurance, and more. In terms of options, the Liberty Mutual insurance reviews suggest it has some solid choices to fit every need, thus earning it 5 out of 5 stars.
In researching this aspect of Liberty Mutual, we saw that the biggest issue was a problem in coordinated communication. Some customers we found felt that among all the different platforms Liberty Mutual has, some things were lost in translation. This frustration brought them to 4 out of 5 stars.
Geico is a well-known insurance giant. They boast low rates and with coverage similar to our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews; they have a lot of options. Geico insures a variety of assets beyond cars and homes and focuses on price and customer relations.
These prices will vary with different packages, plans, and history, as well as location. Overall though, Geico is known for giving some of the best prices for coverage, and we felt that reputation was accurate in our research as well. They also give out discounts for many reasons, including military service, academic enrollment, or a good driving history, putting most of their prices below Liberty Mutual and Allstate.
Geico’s coverage is standard and encompassing. Geico is also one of the few big insurance companies to offer mechanical breakdown insurance, however, they do not offer gap insurance or new car replacement which is a bonus we feel is important, so we gave Geico 4 out of 5 stars.
Geico includes a similar number of options as Liberty Mutual does, making this rating easy for us. Past home and auto, Geico includes off-roading vehicles, flood, landlord, and many options for businesses as well.
Geico is known for its customer service and satisfaction. They deal in personalized representatives that are in tune with the various components of their service, making it simple to ask questions or understand the system of claims.
State Farm focuses more on the family aspect of insurance, which means they offer solid deals when you bundle plans. With similar types of coverage and plan options, it is their focus on family plans that sets them apart.
State Farm fits in between Geico and Liberty Mutual in terms of price. Like the others, their prices vary depending on residence and history; however, they focus on family plans, so their bundled or bulkier packages tend to be lower than their competitors. They also provide a lot of options in terms of discounts, which is helpful for big families.
State Farm’s coverage is standard in comparison to its competitors. However, they also cover rental cars, meals, and lodging depending on how far from home we were stranded. In comparison to our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews and Geico’s breakdown, we give State Farm 5 out of 5 stars.
We found that State Farm delivered in similar options to its competitors with a minimal variance which granted it a similar rating.
For its size, State Farm actually received the fewest customer complaints in 2017 and was almost tied with Geico for customer satisfaction. Because there focus is family-oriented, their customer service also has a homey and family feel to it as well, which we felt was welcoming and easy to deal with, giving State Farm a 5 out of 5 stars.
Progressive is well-known for its “name your price tool,” which focuses on its price matching aspect that sets it apart from competitors. It provides bundling options and various discounts along with its price matching promise.
Progressive fits in the higher-middle end of the price spectrum. Even with their price matching aspect, they are typically not the lowest costing of their competitors.
There are 10 different optional coverages that most consumers focused on. Progressive had 8, which was the highest any company had. These coverages include new car replacement and accident forgiveness as well as other options that set about otherwise standard coverage. Because of their increased options, we ranked them 5 out of 5 stars.
Progressive fits in with its competitors as far as options go – including the wide range of possibilities of business, weddings, and more.
In comparison to our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews and other company breakdowns, we found that Progressive had more complaints that its competitors. In our research, we found that Progressive seems to have a problem with staying in touch and communicating with its customers. As this is a big part of an insurance company, we felt that 3 out of 5 stars was warranted.
In our research, we went through a variety of perks, complications, complaints, and sub-options. In researching with all these different criteria, we feel that Liberty is often left out of reviews because of their higher prices. While their service and coverage are solid, and they offer perks along with those, their prices are higher than their competitors in a way that is hardly comparable.
For this reason, we rank Liberty Mutual 3 out of 5 stars. Our Liberty Mutual insurance reviews, and the reviews we have seen from others, seem to point to them being a capable and competitive company, but perhaps out of reach in terms of price.
